Nike - UNLEASH YOUR POWER | VFX-Driven Spec Ad

Here is my latest side project: a speculative (mock) ad for Nike. I’ve been learning Houdini over the past year and wanted to pull off a simple effect with live action footage. My main focus was on the CG work, but there were some invisible FX that I felt deserved mentioning as well (caution: avoid filming with logo-covered soccer balls). I experimented with the fracture sim for a while and tried dozens of various looks, but ultimately I tried to keep it simpler and more grounded, as a flashier, larger fracturing would realistically result in a greater structural collapse. The CG ball I created from a photoscan unfortunately didn't get used since I took the destruction in a different creative direction, but definitely looking to have more of a CG presence in my future projects.

Speculative ad for Nike, featuring some VFX work.

Breakdown for the ad. Programs used: Houdini, Nuke, Blender, Polycam & Davinci Resolve.

This was one of my primary references for the concrete breaking, since it was a realistic, minimal example.
